Feels like sentiment is the thing keeping him. Rather than his credentials

I always assumed it was a mixture of a debt of gratitude and the need for some continuity following so much upheaval and transformation with the new owners coming in.

He is/was their trusted man on the football knowledge side. I do think it may be to big a job for him now though, if he is struggling to see his family then it seems that the infrastructure around him to support him is not much kop.
Or it could be other things.
Knighthead want promotion. To achieve that won’t be easy with clubs receiving parachute money. We have nail our transfer activity, improve the academy and pathway from it. Our loan structure out of the club as well as in.
The Director of Football role is vital. We have Gardner doing it. It’s mind blowing to me.
He was part of the squad that won the cup. Got sold. No problem. Was bought back a few years later when he was finished as a player because he was Blues and part of the squad that won the cup. Got parachuted into coaching because he was Blues and part of the squad that won the cup. Buggered off to Wednesday with Pulis and they got sacked for being shit after a few months (something that doesn’t happen to Pulis until wor Craig was his assistant btw). Came back to Blues as a coach because he was Blues and part of the squad that won the cup. And then became Technical Director because he was Blues and part of the squad that won the cup. Now he’s DofFootball because he was Blues and part of the squad that won the cup. He’s brown nosed and said what people want to hear for years. With imo nothing to put on a cv to justify his roles.
Drain the bastard swamp. Nice bloke or not. There’s loads of nice blokes on here but I wouldn’t want them loons running the football side at Blues either

Could not have put it better myself other than my usual comment to remind people who kept hiring him and what huge alarm bells that should've sounded both at the time and since.

Who's had the better track record in their time at the club?

Has to be CD. Ok, he underperformed a bit this season but overperformed by a lot more the season before.

Whereas CG has been 'meh' at best throughout his tenure.

He was Technical Director at his previous clubs, didn't have the DoF role.

He apparently was at Man City and Fulham

Can anyone provide copy of Gardners job description so us less clever ones can judge how he’s performed against it? I haven’t got a clue if he’s done well or not but I do know we just finished in our highest position for yonks.

My nipper started with Royal Mail this morning. He’s come home, had his tea, gone to bed, got up declared himself to be starving, had another tea and gone back to bed. He’ll be wishing he’d finished one of the degrees he started and didn’t finish before long.
