Yeah probably right, surprised they chose Davies over Gardner

I'm not (if it's true)

Who's had the better track record in their time at the club?

Has to be CD. Ok, he underperformed a bit this season but overperformed by a lot more the season before.

Whereas CG has been 'meh' at best throughout his tenure.

I’m not saying I completely disagree with the general point you’re making, but was it possible to over perform last season, let alone by a lot?

He did very well, I’ll grant you, and I don’t think many managers would have hit 111 (purely down to coasting a little after Wembley), but the expectations were surely 100+ points at least

He was Technical Director at his previous clubs, didn't have the DoF role.

He apparently was at Man City and Fulham

He doesn't reckon so.
His LinkedIn in says he was a technical director at Nan City (head of player acquisitions). Chief football officer at Fulham, the description does sound a bit DoF ish though

My nipper started with Royal Mail this morning. He’s come home, had his tea, gone to bed, got up declared himself to be starving, had another tea and gone back to bed. He’ll be wishing he’d finished one of the degrees he started and didn’t finish before long.
Oh mate, he really will and hopefully the cretinry of his workmates, the incompetence and bullying of managers and the state of the chumps he has to deliver to, will make him get back to studying before it’s too late.
Make sure he starts on time, takes his breaks, uses a trolley, books any overtime he does and not get pushed into doing overtime he doesn’t want to do or Red Rabbo will he after him.
Btw did he complete his round today? All mail delivered?

Can anyone provide copy of Gardners job description so us less clever ones can judge how he’s performed against it? I haven’t got a clue if he’s done well or not but I do know we just finished in our highest position for yonks.

I think a copy of his actuak job description might be difficult, but someone has already posted in the thread what he's responsible for:

It encompasses the entire footballing strategy from grass roots scouting, setting out how the 1st teams will play and all sides in-between and being the conduit from the ownership to the coaching staff.

Contract negotiations, transfer negotiations, recruitment of key staff in coaching, ops and medical.

It's a huge job, and for what it's worth I don't think CG has done too badly, but we're now at a juncture where we need experience and standing in the role in the game.

I like Craig, but I think there is enough wrong at the club to justify people saying we need a change.

It's not about our league position - the lack of good prospects coming through, the lack of joined up thinking when it comes to recruitment of players and players coming through, the turnover of football staff... there's quite a few issues within the club.

Did he really over perform given he was given a budget and playing staff with a budget bigger than the rest of the division combined?

And of course, it was CG who was at least in part responsible for giving him those players...

Dunno, think he might have been shadowing or learning a route with what he described as an annoying woman

You're assuming that Gardner leaving the club (if that's the case), after being offered another position (if that's the case), and turning it down (if that's the case), is solely for footballing/performance reasons.

Didn’t he say around about the time the season ended that he was sure he was off?

He’s also said again, that things change. Until something is done, it’s not yet done

Yes, he did IMO.

I absolutely agree that most (not all) things were stacked in his favour, but taking over a shambles of a team/squad and delivering 111 points and a wembley final in his first job isn't just hitting par.
