What a show - very much of its time really, but will always be a classic like the Likely lads etc.

The Likely Lads, Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads?, Porridge and its sequel Going Straight, and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet all written by Dick Clement and Ian Le Frenais.

They were genius. We grew up watching their 'comedies'. I highlighted that because they were just as much social comment as entertainment and anyone around in those times it resonated with, it's what makes them genius.
More up to date versions would be Early Doors, The Royle Family and the Detectorists
This is where British comedy will always win over the American Friends type stuff, for me.
