yep it's gone, it was due for a refurb but the refurb costs came in way too high and they couldnt afford them. one of (if not the last) of the old big pubs from round that way.

got some great memories of that place from when i was young.

A FEW years ago? Its showing as demolished on Google Earth in 2001 and it had been derelict for years before that.

Owner Greene King confirmed to B14 News it has ceased trading at the pub while it "considers the future of the site", saying the decision was made following a review of its long-term plans.
The company said: "Making the decision to close a pub is never an easy one and multiple factors are always considered."
It added that it knows the closure will be disappointing for the local community and is working to find alternative roles for affected staff at nearby Greene King pubs where possible.
At this stage, Greene King has not revealed what the future holds for the site or whether the previously planned refurbishment will still go ahead

yep the valley, the maypole, the sporting parson / cartland arms all long gone.

They had some good gigs at the Rock Club - a shame its gone.

I'm grew up in Pubs, and run/worked in a few, and the list that have gone is huge... and that's from just the area between Blues and the airport.

Shame about The Billesley, I've a got a friend who lived a few doors down, and we always went in there for lunch in the early 2000's.

Apparently Solihull Lodge has closed for "refurbishment" as well.

Rab there is something going on here. I've been to the Rock Club a few times and its always rammed. The Hungry Horse
part of the Pub also seems busy.

Who closes a Pub for 3 weeks refurbishment during the World Cup !

I cant stand Greene King, if they're not shutting breweries its Pubs,

Seems to be varied reports coming out on Facey. Several people who've been in recently were saying there was only abt 6 people in the entire pub when they visited.

Greene King have about 300 pubs and they say approx 150 of them will be closing. Hospitality never restarted properly after COVID 5 years ago and pubs have been hanging on since. Rises in minimum wage, utilities ( there is no cap for business),prices charged by supermarkets and meals delivered to your home address have all eroded the pub trade to virtually nothing.

Also from 2031 commercial buildings are going to need to be category B EFC - bringing a pub built in the 1920s up to those standards when it's taking virtually no money most nights of the week isn't going well make sense financially.

The government are going to have to rethink some things else they're going to be seen as the government that killed pubs, these are community assets that arguably deserve special treatment imo
