Agreed - its also a bit of a reach to claim him as British; he was born in Paris to French parents who later moved to the UK.

He's not doing much to dispel the thought that tennis is massively elitist: his parents are millionaires with his Dad having a net worth quoted at £270m+ and his Mom works for the Lawn Tennis Assn.

You could imagine the meeting at Wimbledon to decide the wild card entrants "Hey Olivia your lad is OK at tennis isnt he?" "Yes" "Ok we'll pop him down as wild card - meeting over. 'Bubbles' anyone? Great!"

Tennis is generally a rich person's sport, but all the best of luck to him. He's playing as British, it'd be great if he won it.

He moved to the UK as a tiny baby and wants to represent the UK. I think that's fine?

Tennis is elitist , but it doesn't make his achievement any less.

And even if that's how they arrived at the wildcard entrant ( ignoring the fact he was the 3rd ranked British man last week [www.lta.org.uk] ) , doesn't his run to the Semi-Final prove they were correct!

He grew up in the UK and clearly considers himself British.

I watch a bit of tennis. The only genuinely working class British tennis player with no family background in the sport or money was Dan Evans. Even if you hate the fact he’s a DVB you’ve got to be impressed by what he achieved. No-one else playing tennis for GB today is from a similar background.
