I lived over that way between 1975 and 1987 - actually at the foot of Hednesford Hill. During the 1976 heatwave, there were always fires in the area - our hill burned regularly. It was scary to watch how easily it spread underground and shot up in another part of the hill.

Was a fire over Lyndon Playing Fields this morning, B26 between South Yardley and Solihull, only small by the looks of it with fire brigade in response, not been the first one this week according to a chap who lives right by the field

When I was very young I may or may not have been with a group of friends when erm, in a very dry summer erm fire engines had to come to the Area.

A few were messing around just being kids and shit went up fast that grass gets dry. We thought we had put it out and were very, very, very wrong.

We had a lot of rain Sunday and quite a lot overnight yesterday. Amazing how quickly everything has gone green again.

Weird to welcome rain. I reckon people are going to have to learn to cope with these strange weather conditions. Winters are much warmer - this year crops on my alllotment are 4 weeks earlier
