That would be Rowett having no money and a below average squad and getting a hell of a return from the sum of his parts. 10th place wasnt it?

Under Monk with Millions spent on Pederson, Colin, Roberts, Dean, Jota, Adams we would have finished 14th I believe without the deduction. Lowest possession stats in the league, Rotherham had more of the ball than us.

Dreadful.

The only one of those signed when Monk was manager was Pedersen, and that caused us no end of problems that season because of the embargo and pts deduction that followed.

I mean, you point out that he had players at his disposal like Jota and Roberts who had cost millions prior to his arrival. I would point out that really all we'd done was spend millions on a collection of primarily duds that he was then able to get an OK enough tune out of.

They werent duds at Brentford though and dont become bad players overnight.

Awesome, so by your logic we don’t need any more players, the ones we have signed haven’t been duds elsewhere and don’t become bad players overnight, it’s just on Davies to turn them into Peps Man City.

I mean, that is kind of his remit.

Is this the 'It was the players, not the manager' thing we used to go on about for years. All dependant on if you liked the players and manager.

Personally, a better head coach would have gotten better results with the 18/19 team. I am sure of it. The base of the team was very good. One of the best young forwards in the league in Adams, Jota, Gardner, Roberts, Colin was always 7 out of 10 many so say many on here, Pedersen. It wasnt a shit team. It was rooted in a lack of ambition, lack of belief.

I guess the Jan 26 window was brought forward and that took some of our spending away.

A few are saying that our squad isn't any better than last year. I think I have to disagree with that.

Solis, Beadle, Priske, BOS and Neuman all look better players than when they first arrived. For me, that more than mitigates the loss of Osman and Wagner.

We were facing a points deduction all season. That didn't help. I don't think we were a 75 point team even without that deduction. 59 points pre- deduction was only a bit under at most. We didn't have much of a squad as opposed to a team.

I thought Monk did ok, but he let himself down with the agent rubbish. His career hasn't recovered from that.

Nice. Contemplative. We all get a bit knee jerky at times. I didn't think myself we'd go for both Millar and Fusiemi, on the face of it, Millar makes the 'safer' bet.
If Fusiemi tears it up at Derby, I'll be eating those words, so will the club. Them's the gambles.
We have thrown a lot of money at players that we've then had to move on not long after.
Maybe they are trying to learn lessons?

They were signing Fuesini on loan, earlier in the day everyone was wisely nodding about how low risk that was?

This is what I really can’t wrap my head around. We had an opportunity to bring in a younger more exciting player and get rid of a controversial 32/33 year old who had actually agreed a deal elsewhere, and we decided to pull the plug on both deals? Why?

It doesn’t make any sense to me. I’m happy enough with saying keeping the powder dry may have been the best bet, this window has been slow and difficult so maybe Jan will be better so saving money for then would be better… all that makes sense. But I just can’t see why we wouldn’t pursue that swap.

Yes Ducksch contributed a number of goals and some nice linkup play last season, but he’s always had his flaws without the ball that I don’t think we should accommodate for, then you have the incident too. Honestly I am baffled at that decision
Did we pull the plug on Ducksch leaving? If so there must be more than meets the eye with Fuesini. An effective swap made lots of sense.

I’m completely with you, I’m just saying Monk gets criticised for not doing it whereas the advocation for CD is we need to buy him a premier league squad to do well.

Dan, it seems shambolic and/or negligent that we still haven't replaced Craig Gardner all these months on.
Could this be the reason why we've had such an underwhelming window?

Sorry, some of the money being asked for , what would be at Blues, squad players is absolutely ridiculous. Boro have, in effect, paid 10 million quid to loan a keeper.
