Knighthead have bought 49% of Birmingham Phoenix for around £40m
Oval 61, Brum 40, Lord's tomorrow probably 65, Manc/Yorks/Notts/Hants be about same as Brum, Cardiff about 30 adds up to about 350 million which was roughly ECB's slightly more realistic target. Will keep some counties going till about 2030

Yeah, admittedly I'm an incredibly casual cricket viewer at best. But that feels way over the odds.

Be intrested to know why people more clued up than myself think they've valued it so high.

For 49%

With Edgbaston owning the other 51% of the franchise

Its not a great product so would be interested to know what Knightheads motivation is with this other than 'to make money'

Careful on the price and I'd wait till people in the know have had a butchers at the accounts. Always possible they've inflated it to drum up better offers for the other 6 over the coming days

They spent a shit load on Blues for just 49%

Got to fill the Sports Quarter with sports haven’t they?

There’s lots of big ticket investors. The product will improve a lot I would imagine.

And they are investing to improve the product yeah? Bigger sponsors, better players, bigger audience and bumper tv deals to follow from UK and India no doubt which should see their investment rewarded

You can make the case but no idea how you arrive at £40m, the ECBs leaked valuation info wasnt convincing

But its not a lot to spend to have more of a stake in the city

I think the competition has appeal to America.

The concept is much simpler than other traditional forms of cricket and the time zone is good.

India will much be harder to crack and unless some Indian male stars start playing in it then I don't see it gaining traction or playing rival to the IPL.

It'll end up as a 20/20 competition. The new investors want the franchises and will then change the format, and the ECB won't stop them.
22:20, Thu 30 Jan
That would be a shame IMO. I almost feel like they should lean into the competition being a bit more gimmicky to help break down some of the boundaries (pun intended) the sport has and open new markets.

It's cricket, but not as you know it, kind of deal.

To turn it into a t20 does none of that.
