I know they have plans, but threatening the stumps less than 10% of the time doesn't strike me as threatening much.

All good test teams are built on the basics and between the ridiculous batting and shambolic fielding we have neither.

That's what I'm most disappointed about.

The plans are ok, but you've got to have enough about you to be flexible. It makes it so easy for the Aussies if they know everything is going to be short, or short of a length.

0 runs through mid-off when they were on 300 tells its own story.

That's just madness.

a lot of cricket still to be played but sadly seems another one thrown away

though root probs hid another bad English innings with the bat behind his heroics

It’s just the basics isn’t it

Some of the bowling has been pitiful

Thank god for Joe Root otherwise we’d already be completely out of the game

Half their runs came backward of square. Even Labuschagne mentioned about getting it off 5th stump and away. They knew what they were facing.

It's like football, you gotta have a plan but if it ain't working you have to be prepared to change it a bit.

Massive opening hour tomorrow.

Paying for the mistakes of yesterday now.

The timing is just right to have to bat under the lights, too.

The pitch is an absolute road. Starc getting 77 proves that.

Good start here, aggressively going after the poor balls but leaving the tempters (so far). The impact of the lights has been massively overstated for this particular test too, it's not looked tricky to bat on at all for either team under them.

Didn't last.

I don't think he's quite got it mentally, really. He's been hitting the ball uppishly, but then instead of just seeing himself into a better rythym he keeps doing it.

It was just a matter of time, and then he's got a face on him as if he's been unlucky.

And he's out.

I'm so effing tired of the same shit shots getting them out. Absolutely nothing happening bar the one freak ball that got Duckett and they're still intent on going after these.

Just eff off.

Pope gets out because he Ingrid enough, not because of the approach. He rarely goes on and gets a score even when he get a start. He’s the glaring weakness in the England batting line up.

Plus paying the price for all of those catches dropped yesterday. Sholud have been batting in the sunshine on a table.

In amazed Pope is still in the team. Have we really got nobody better who can bat 3?
