Nonsense. If anything it's the fans who thought these players were capable of passing the ball around like Man City who are to blame.
The wonderful irony of course is that it's these same fans who are now blaming the players for our situation for having no bottle when they have for ages moaned that players don't need a quality like "pashun" or mental strength but merely to be able to pass the ball/be technically able.
