I would genuinely bring in mark noble.

Stones is way too high IMHO.

Can never play for England again.

We need some top quality centre backs to come through if this England team is ever going to win anything.

I agree. People will see it as reactionary, but he actually costs, or is very lucky not to cost goals in most games he plays. Last night he was directly responsible for THREE goals in less than 45 minutes of football. If he did that in the Dog & Duclk league it would be a disgrace, never mind an international semi final. Guardiola doesn’t trust him as a (so called) “defender” why should England. He needs to try to get in their team and prove he can defend properly with no regular cock ups before he gets near another England squad

we need to take the rose tinted glasses off we just scraped through to the semis last year by beating poor teams

As Scoobers said we then topped a group with Spain & Croatia, beating Spain in their own back garden.

Last night was also a lot of reserves/unfit players. Walker/Stones/Rashford/Delph wouldn't start in normal circumstances.

Yes our defending was bloody awful, but IMHO Southgate needs to shoulder the blame for this. It's a major semi-final, why play a weakened team?

No Trent Alexander Arnold, Henderson, Winks, Ali or Kane in the starting line-up because Southgate was worried they might be "tired". Didn't seem to bother Van Dijk or Wijnaldum in the Dutch team.

A powder puff midfield of Delph (??!!!!), Rice (?!!!!) and Barkley got completely overun. This didn't really change till we bought Henderson on for the last 20 minutes and went 4-4-2 to challenge De Jong's dominance in the middle. Might even have pulled it off but for John Stones comedy capers.

I like what Southgate has done to transform England, but this was just bloody naive, what an opportunity missed.

I lost count of the number of times a defender passed it to a midfield player that was facing their own goal with an opponent standing less than a yard away.

It happened time and time and time again.

WTF are they supposed to do with these balls?
09:27, Fri 7 Jun
The whole point is that the midfield is supposed to move and create space to pass into. But for that you need midfielders comfortable in possession. We literally had none in that squad. To move forward you need to get players like Maddison, Foden, Loftus-Cheek etc in there and give them games to get used to that level. Not effing Mark Noble.

The result is the defenders either have too much time with the ball, and resort to trying to overplay or just hoofing it, which will get you killed at that level.

The Dutch have always been technically better, but we have kids coming through who have managed to avid the "gerrintuem" merchants and want to play the ball.

All the reactionary bollocks about humping it, players never wearing the shirt again and Southgate being sacked is a complete pile of shite. We are miles better off than a couple of years back, people need to realise where we are coming from and who were are playing against. We have no divine right and of the players we have, at this moment we have none that you'd put as 100% world class. De Jong would instantly transform us into a much better team, you need to find an English De Jong and give them time.

No one has any patience anymore in football.

Rice?
Did he do anything last night, can;t seem to remember
09:32, Fri 7 Jun
Spot on. This is an incredibly exciting time for English football, You're looking at going from Delph/Barkley to Foden/Maddison. That would improve the team to no end.

To emphasise, we nearly reached the final by playing 4/5 of what will be reserve players, or players not even in the squad.
09:34, Fri 7 Jun
I think people do have patience tbf. Stones has proved that in a back 3 himself and the defence looked stronger. We’ve got the players perfect for it. It just seems silly to go back to a system that hasn’t been as successful

Rice will be fine as a defensive mid with ball players around him. Again, he's a kid.

Yeah, I think as it stands a back 3 is probably the best option, but we'd done ok in the last couple of games with a back 4.

Being flexible is great, you just need to pick the right system against the right team. Or get yourselves so slick you don't worry what the oppo have, you just play your game.

The post match stuff with Carragher, Redknapp & Neville was great last night and told everyone what you need to succeed going forward.
