Some good choices there. I'd go with

Billy Brag - Workers Playtime
Lloyd Cole and the Commotions - Rattlesnakes
Aztec Camera - High Land, Hard Rain
Prefab Sprout - Steve McQueen
Stone Roses - The Stone Roses

Talking heads - True Stories
New Order - Substance
The Smiths - Strange ways here we come
Prefab Sprout - from langly Park to memphis
Fleetwood Mac - Tango in the Night

I worked in a record factory in Sydney on a working visa in β€˜87 and so many of these albums were what I was stuffing into packing crates to be sent to a store in Alice Springs or similar. Reading this thread has brought back a lot of memories from those times. I used to get a free album every week (plenty there helped themselves to more than the free one they got) so have quite a few that have been mentioned on this thread.

Can’t believe there’s no Phil Collins.
This place is going up in my estimation

Brilliant too

Little known fact, a lot of these albums owed their existence to, and were worked on, by Brummies.

Many blues fans amongst them

...start of the decade... Closer - Joy Division

....end of the decade..... Technique - New Order

Lots of albums in between from many different artists, just starting out at work, payday was a regular splurge of cash in the record stores of Birmingham.

Noteworthy mentions to Dare - Human League and The Queen is Dead - The Smiths.

Exploited - F*** the System
The Gun Club - Fire of Love
Motorhead - Ace of Spades
The Cramps - Smell of Female
Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy

Eight legged groove machine takes me back to nights out in Selly Oak. Gun barrels, Brook and the varsity.

I don't find myself returning to it though, nor do I the smiths. Not sure why. Maybe I'm trying to unlock certain memories more so than others.

Driving in the car, playing 'air piano' to the Jools Holland 'Uncertain Smile' piano solo on the dashboard with the spare hand.....

Which reminds me, how come I didn't put Squeeze Argy Bargy or East Side Story on my list? πŸ€”
