I was broadly in support of this until I saw Tory Lord, Michelle Mone argue against the idea on GMB saying that Fridays are spent by most workers just discussing what theyโre up to the weekend (and so Thursday would become the new Friday). In between the smirking I thought, hereโs a woman whose opinion you can trust.
not for me at this time in my life thanks. 4 x 9.5 hour days would mean not really getting to see my kids that much for 4 days then having a day off when they are at school.
"not really getting to see my kids that much for 4 days" ... if your household was a democracy the kids might outvote you on that one
๐๐๐๐๐
Look, you don't get to trouser millions of taxpayers money via dodgy contracts agreed with your mates by slacking off on a friday!
RagsNot sure if many are aware, but thousands of workers at hundreds of firms are trying this pilot programme over the next 6 months of working 4 days a week instead of 5.
Same pay but ... for example, 4 x 9.5 hr days instead of 5 x 7.5 hr days
I quite fancy that ... especially if i was at a firm doing x x M T x Th F
Thoughts ?
I would just like to say, to anyone on here taking part in this pilot...
Do not eff it up. Work hard. Make it happen.
We need this.
Thanks.
...been doing it for 3 years, love it, 37 hours split over 4 days....long days but the benefits of a long weekend every other week outweigh that.
Friday off this week, Monday next ๐ ๐ค
When i first started working for Sperry back in about 1982 as a Business Systems analyst we were each given set targets to meet in terms of progression over the week and as long as you did your hours they weren't fussed - and the roles didn't involve any interlinking with clients.
Everyone was young (IT industry back then was all brand new) and looking back i can't believe what we were allowed to do
Turn up Monday morning ... complete with snacks, drinks and fags (could smoke in the office in those days), deodorant, toothbrush etc and caffeine tablets.
Work Monday morning ... all the way through the night ... all through Tuesday ... go home at 8.00pm on the Tuesday .. 35 hrs non-stop (which is really just like going to an all night party and not sleeping until the next night) ... having done ALL your work for the week. Sleep until Wednesday morning ... then Wed, Th, Fri, Sat, Sun off
Unsurprisingly most of the people i worked with back then are dead now
Enjoyed the three day week back in 1972. The Ted Heath Gov. brought it in to conserve electricity which was severely restricted during the Miners Strike. Worked at "Fishers" and went onto Nights. Three nights at ten hours/night plus night allowance was almost the same as five days. Plus side - more time for fishing! Cheers.

Some good feedback from employees here .... [www.theguardian.com].
Kids are overated.
The point of the four day week is to reduce hours with no loss of pay, not condense the week.
