Evening all.

Clocking in. Lovely away win. Lovely.

This post tickled me. I get it, and it is more prevalent than maybe people feel.

My two penn'orth

When I was on an interview panel at Blues, I used to lob in a last question. Along the lines of 'if you could compare yourself to any Blues player, who would it be and why?'

If someone said 'oh yeah, Christophe Dugarry' I'd be like 'hmmmm....'

Now, I would only ask this if I knew the interviewee was a Blues fan. If not, it would be a generic, ie a footballer.

It was just to get a handle on someone, a bit light-hearted, but also maybe not...

For clarity, this would not decide on the ultimate outcome of the interview.

The best response I remember was 'Kenny Cunningham'. That person also got the job, as they were the best interviewee aside from that answer and talented. A shame they were a victim of internal politicking and left, and are now in a very senior role in another sport.

If someone had said 'Dougie Bell' I might have given them the role there and then for their chutzpah.

On another day, I might talk about what happened when I was interviewed for my own job, but that's another story, as they say.

I guess the moral of the story is, be prepared for anything in a job interview - and know your interviewer!

I was really impressed with the way you proved your self confessed pathetic and immature behaviour by stating that anyone who has a villa season ticket "must have a low moral compass and no stomach for hard work when a problem arises".How very bizarre.
You couldn't make it up!

I presume this post is a massive wind- up?

Okay .. on a serious note ... In Stoicism, for i am indeed a Stoic, pathos refers to "complaints of the soul". Succumbing to pathos is an internal event (ie in one's soul) that consists in an erroneous response to impressions external to it. This view of pathos, and the accompanying view that all pathos is to be extirpated, (in order to achieve the state of apatheia), are related by Stoics to a specific picture of the nature of the soul, of psychological functioning, and of human action. A key feature of that picture is that succumbing to pathos is an error of reason – an intellectual mistake.

Of course you could make it up. Rags did. His values I mean, not the story.

I’ve yet to meet a villa fan yet who hasn’t eventually revealed themself to be a person I couldn’t count on or held views that I don’t wish to be associated with. I give everyone an equal opportunity regardless of footballing allegiance and I can hand on heart say that every single villa fan I have bothered to get to know has eventually become someone I’d prefer not to know. They’re like golfers, coppers and salesmen. All wronguns. Give it time.

Speaking of which, some don’t need time. Hospital visiting again this evening, Sandwell general geriatric ward. Baggies family in the next bed - lovely people, the whole family. Lots of hard luck stories and humour, very helpful and respectful. Opposite is a villa family. Entitled, rude and selfish. Thick working class with a middle class mindset. You could make it up but I’m not. The meek and mild granny of the Albion family told my mrs this afternoon, speaking about the daughter in law of the villa family, “if her looks at me like that again I’m gunna punch her gob!”

I’m not saying every single villa fan is a tw@, just every single one I’ve met.

Yep ,you chucked a lot of big words in there, very impressive.None of it supports the rubbish comparison you made about low moral compass or stomach for hard work but well done for showing off.

It wasn't THAT impressive, i copied and pasted it from wiki. Which shows how little effort you put into your research.

... it isn't just Villa fans i avoid employing, it's lazy, unimaginative people who can't be arsed to find out about stuff, how things work, why things work and whether or not they've worked before.

i'll let you know on Wednesday if you got the job.

He wouldn’t want to work for the kind of boss who would employ him.

The other argument put here which i disagree with is the one which runs "he may be a Villa fan because he comes from a Villa family, his Dad is Villa and his Grandad is Villa".

So, should i employ blatant racists because it can be excused because they come from a racist family, their Dad is a racist and their Grandad is a racist ?

One of the greatest gifts we have as humans is that of "free will"..... once you get to adulthood you should have the ability to review and evaluate your life. If you then choose to remain a Villa fan it illustrates that there is something odious and repugnant at the core of your personality

Why would i employ one ?

You can’t excuse them because they com from a villa family precisely because they come from a villa family. They will have been raised with villa fans morals and values.

Correct Rags,it wasn't that impressive.Certainly wouldn't need to do any research to realise how irrelevant it was. You really do come across as a very strange fella indeed. What's your specialist subject, sweeping generalisations ?
