RIP Pike, aged 77.
I think that's all of Dad's Army gone now.
I used to play cricket with his son James, and met Ian on a few occasions.
Nice fella.
Shame, still watch the repeats most time they are on.
Was about to say that Frank Williams was still alive, but just googled that.
Don't tell him Pike....
Another piece of my childhood gone……..😪 RIP
Dad’s Army, Reggie Perrin, Fawlty Towers - Fabulous, timeless, comedies with real characters bought to life by exceptional actors.
Apparently, he was a supporter of those from the Dark Side, hence his scarf !
Rest in peace Private Pike.
What a classic comedy.
Met him about 15 years ago. It was a charity cricket match between Harborne CC and a Lords Taverners 11.
Chris Tarrant was captaining the Taverners and after the match, he said
"Over there is Ian Lavender. At this very moment, somewhere in the world, there's an episode of Dad's Army playing and a bit more money is dropping into his bank account!"
I was just by Ian and he just smiled and nodded his head vigorously.
He went to my school ( Bournville tech ) but a few years above me raised in Mavis Rd, Longbridge..thoroughly nice chap RIP Pike.
