They will be purchasing 54.04% of a league One Club now. I guess it depends what was stated in the original deal.

I'm not businessman, but I would imagine that if there is an agreement in place to buy those shares at a future date, then the price they pay for those shares will also have been negotiated at a fixed price. Doing it like that seems like the most logical sense.
