Reflect on being Britain's greatest ever sportsman

Still got Daley Thompson down for that one. His mom wouldn't let him live at home because he wasn't bringing any money in while chasing his dream. She never once went to see him compete. He did it all on his own, nobody to drive him on.

Andy's mom sent him to live in Barcelona so he could attend an elite tennis school.

Amazingly though, Daley is still as big a dick as he was when competing.

Though I agree he was a fantastic athlete. Seb Coe was somewhere up there too and I think he didn’t/doesn’t fall in the likeable,e column.

Tbf Daleys Mom was a chunt.

Dunno.

Nice to see Dan Evans will never win anything important.

Daley Thompson. Not good enough to be the best in one sport. So competed in 10 that resulted in one leaderboard combining them all. Whilst anyone more talented couldn’t be arsed with that.
Like Jonathon Spector being called the best footballer ever

Maybe Daley, but its Joe Calzaghe for me. Or Bobby Moore. Or Alf Tupper.

I was glad to see the match point was his mishit.

Team players might be a bit different, but aren't most top performers in individual sports going to be fannys? You don't become a champion unless you're a driven, it's-all-about-me type.

He's had a great career. Shame the dvb let him down.

I’m really sad to see Murray’s career end; I absolutely loved watching him play.

Just like Peaty, Murray is a legendary British sportsman!
"we don't even know why we're here - we're all just wandering around, doing daft things, killing time, until we die; that's why Frisbee's been invented..." (Karl Pilkington 2013)

I like Andy Murray, and I also liked Steve Ovett as opposed to Coe. Maybe it’s about having a sense of humour and though being driven, aware you aren’t the only person in the world that counts. Or something.

Perhaps in goal then good reach.

Anyone who thinks Murray is a boring, dour prick is confusing boring and dour with being Scottish.

The bloke has a proper sense of humour.

I remember Seb Coe saying he was in training and desperate to beat Ovett. He was going to take Christmas day off but thought, if I go for a run, Ovett will probably be taking the day off so I'll have an edge.

Then he came back home and thought and maybe Ovett did go for a run, so he went for a second. Then he cam home and then went out for a third just to be sure.

He said when the race came he knew he'd win because there's no way Steve O had been for three runs on Christmas day.

There's a 1hr45min documentary on Daley Thompson on iPlayer currently.

I hadn't realised quite how big a bellend he is. Massively insecure as well.

The bits where he mocked his own son for not being as good a decathlete as he was was genuinely painful to watch.

As for Murray, he's dryly sarcastic in a way a lot of English people seem unable to understand. I reckon he'd be a better commentator than some think he would.
The cold never bothered me anyway
