Tbf it'll probably go up a bit, they've played 4 games, one was at Bolton and the other three they were leading from early on, 'game state' makes quite a big difference. They'll probably average around 50%

No exact numbers here but if you can read this table it shows how much Wrexham are over performing compared to how they have been playing.
Also shows we've been a bit crap in goal by throwing some in, as we already knew.
Prized possession is a great phrase. You can get obsessed with padding out stats and it’s dangerous. Russell Martin one who overplays at the back I feel at the expense of braver attacking football. I’ve already said I hope we don’t go down that route. There’s a balance to be had between playing good attacking football and bossing possession. That’s what maximises your chances of fans returning imo
Not sure youare correct there Rab
Martin’s side often hit 10 or more uninterrupted passes in open play, while their season total of 274 build-up attacks — sequences of 10 or more passes that end in a shot or a touch in the opposition box — dwarfed tallies of 17, 23 and 37 towards the bottom of the division.
RonzI belive the completed passes was in the 80% rannge, trouble is if the 20% is your final ball then that's not so good.
Final balls haven't been great but I think a lot of that goes with a side till trying to gel. As the empathy developes player instinctively know how and where others will be. We are a bit telegraphed still.
Bottom line is I'd have took 10 points from 4 at the start.
Thing is with final balls, they look great when somebody gets on the end of them. I think our issues in attack currently are two fold: 1. Players taking too long to seek out the pass and deliver, and that is as a result of 2. Players not making clever enough runs.
The last part of the equation is probably the last thing to come with a new set of players learning a new style because it's about knowing each other's rhythms/runs and understanding what our shape does to the opposition; where the holes are.
We've only just finalised the squad and still have to find our best 11. Once we've established that we'll be golden.
Luckily we've got a couple of really fast centre halves who will thrive on dealing their long balls over the top!
Fat Buddha CBEI’m sure. No apology required. Touch in the box indeed.Prized possession is a great phrase. You can get obsessed with padding out stats and it’s dangerous. You are.
Disgusting. Be better. A nod to your times in Wales
mjd2505Possession doesn't win you football matches, it's just a stylistic indicator at best.
The match against Wrexham will be tough. They're likely to be top of the league when we play them (they play this weekend vs Shrewsbury), they've got a very settled side and style and they're effective with it. It's honestly the one I'm most worried about in this next run in. We'll have to be better than we have been previously (in league and cup!) to beat them.
Thankfully we've got 2 weeks to prepare for it, a lot of the squad together in that time, and seemingly one of the most meticulous and hard working managers out there. I'm confident we will look better on that day.
It's also fair to say we've only played teams so far that we would expect to beat bar Fulham. Wrexham will be a bit different, and maybe we naturally play at a higher level in response to that. The next 5 games will be very telling of where we are right now, the first 5 we've probably come out looking rosier on paper than we are in reality.
Possession has become a very odd statistic, as historically amount of possession translated to results so much that people almost treat is as more possession > win, whereas when United did it in the late 90s and Spain etc it was far higher up the pitch than it is now. Teams seem to do it for the sake of it at times!
Leicester proved that wrong winning the league
Leicester were an anomaly season, I think it being the only time proves the opposite of what you are saying.
It was also comfortably the lowest points total of the last thirteen years. They won it because the other teams didn't perform even close to as well as they have every other season.
I reckon we will have to improve considerably on our home performances to date if we are going to beat these .
I dont agree. I watched the Wrexham game today and how they were 3-0 up I’ll never know. Up to the 3rd goal Shrewsbury had been the better team. They are Nothing special, no real pace, don’t keep the ball at all well, no technical players. What they do well is, they are very physical and aggressive in challenges, they get the ball forward and wide quickly and seem to be very efficient in converting limited chances. I’ve watched all the Welcome to Wrexham shows but they have now become deeply unlikable- typified by James McLean. Moaning, dirty and cocky, hope we smash them to pieces.
I agree with you, too many people going on like a 35 year old James McClean is better than prime Messi.
I must say, I did think at one point Shrewsbury when they did bother to press them high up the pitch and caught them, Wrexham didn’t look comfortable.
That said Shrewsbury were incredibly lacklustre up the top, just had the one bloke being a one man army trying to feed off scraps. we’ve not been great in those situations e.g taking advantage of a high tackle/interception scenario.
I think our pace out wide will be very telling.. as they play wing backs I think the way we like to over load and have over lapping fullbacks should put us in good stead to cause damage
When you say pace out wide who are you talking about?
