QPR v Blues Boxing Day 1969

I wasn’t at Loftus Road that day but I saw all those players in my time.

Blue since 67 - Will be there at the end of the road, whenever that may be!
I remember all those players but I don't remember ever seeing us play in red.

Me neither. Some really well known players in that QPR side too.

The pitch is absolutely terrible.

The world was in black and white back then tbf.

I must admit the red was a surprise to me too.

Also Barry Bridges was in the QPR side who I saw in a Blues’ shirt a season or two before.

Barry obviously didn’t believe in the ‘don’t celebrate goals against your old club’ mantra. That first goal was awful. That season was just about the time we started to improve in that period.

That's a good point. Dunno when colour telly became commonplace, but was probably watching the miniscule amount of football shown in black and white and my first away game would have been around 1973, so up until then we could have been playing in claret and blue for all I knew.

Unlike these days clubs only wore their change kit when there was a clear clash, in which case the away team changed.

FA Cup semi final both teams changed.

Saw Blues play in red shirts at Filbert Street more than once in late fifties early sixties.

18th November 1972 was when our first colour TV arrived. We beat Stoke 2-1 away that day, with Bob Latchford scoring two. I wasn't allowed to go to that one (was living in Bolton at the time) as I was twelve and not considered quite old enough to go by myself. I still used to get games myself though, just not that one.

The colour was such a novelty that we turned them all up to maximum and everyone looked like Donald bleedin' Trump. The first Match of the Day I saw was that night and it was absolutely wonderful.

The '68 semi-final was a bit before my time, but in the link it does mention as the players are running out that Blues are wearing all red...

It’s incredible that 55 years down the line, Loftus Road looks safer and generally more pleasant then than it does now.
