After a bit of help if possible please…
I’ve got an 11 week old puppy who is due his second jabs. The trouble I’m having is the breeder has had his first jabs done with a brand of vaccine that is apparently very uncommon and that isn’t compatible with the common vaccines.
Basically options are either start him on a new vaccine course (trying to avoid as want to get him out socialising with other dogs and this will delay things by about a month) or drive the 2 hours to the vet where he had the first jab done (will do this if necessary).
The vaccine he had is Virbac Canixin which is apparently quite niche. It’s incompatible with Nobivac and Canigen which I think are the go-to for most vets.
I’ve called YourVets Solihull, Vets4Pets, Horner Vets, Amicus, The Lodge, 608, Vet Clinic @ Dogs Home, Fivelands, Medivet and Willows Vet Centre and none can help.
Appreciate this is a long shot but anyone had the same issue and know a vet local to Yardley or Solihull that carries this brand or one compatible with it?
Cheers
Might be a long shot but give Clent Hills vets (any of their three branches) a call. The staff at the Bromsgrove branch are excellent and might help advise you.
We had similar - we got our puppy from my niece in Ireland and she had her first vaccine over there. When we took her to our vet for the 2nd, they mentioned it was different to the one they used, but they were able to get around it. I can’t remember how though.
Where did the breeder get the injections done? Can you not just go there?
It’s about 2 hours away so will go there if necessary. Thought it was worth looking for somewhere a bit more local first though as the pup’s not great in the car yet

I’ve asked my daughter what they used in Ireland and how our vet got around it - just in case if was the same
They don’t have anything compatible Rags but thank you anyway
Depending on how much you want to fork out to avoid, could you buy it yourself then take him to a local one to administer?

I would consider going for a change in vaccines. It might set the socialising back a few weeks but it's going to save you a lot of time and money in the long run. You need annual boosters so you will have the same problem every year. That's if they continue to make this vaccine you're currently using. If it's not popular they might discontinue it.
Then there's future issues with kennels. If they don't recognise the vaccine they might refuse to have your dog.
I had exactly the same problem with my cocker spaniel puppy in Somerset. If you go back to the breeder's vet you'll need to go there every year for the booster. I ended up biting the bullet and starting from scratch which is a right pain as you say because of the socialisation aspect - doesn't seem to have harmed him though.
