According to Rob Dorsett from Sky Sports:

Futures of Ashley Cole and John O’Shea at Birmingham City up in the air. Neither are candidates for top job, but both assisting Steve Spooner with training. Birmingham would like to keep both on, but much depends on the new head coach/manager, and what back room staff they want to work with.

i'm sure they would prefer not to sack anyone else, the last bit is the only bit that matters though.

Seems 'odd' that they'd want to keep those two if they were doing more of the training than rooney allegedly was...

I was told he walked.

Seems a bit odd, especially as he's been here before and his job is basically analysis isn't it?

Unless he was properly pissed off with how it unfolded he just walked out in protest, forgoing any pay off.

Depends though doesn't it? We don't really know much about what has gone on behind the scenes. It's possible that the players liked those 2 and thought they did a good job. Maybe it was just the ever-changing demands from Rooney that resulted in things not working?
