Have a mate who’s really into his coffee and has been banging on about how good his Aeropress is for coffee.

Does anyone use one?

Am tempted to get one.

Had one & it was "OK" - mainly based on how cheap it was & portability.

A Moka pot in that price is better for home coffee.

A proper (ie bean to cup) machine is best - but comes at a price.

As ever, the beans you use gives the biggest swing in quality though. If you use shite, cheap beans then a £1000 machine will still make shite coffee.

I've got one and use it everyday. I only really drink coffee but I'm far from an expert. When I've used the Aeropress versus my standard coffee maker, you can definitely taste the difference.

I'd recommend it.

It’s good, yeah, can be a bit of a faff. I use aeropress filters on my mokka pot, takes a little bitterness away.

Far and away the best coffeee gadget, and I think they are only about 40 quid is a chemex. Cheap, easy to use and excellent results. I say cheap…..15 quid for 100 filters

They are great, cheap, portable, low mess and quick to make a single cup.

Use it everyday and I rate it over some of the big machines.

Use the iverted method. Just put a small amount of water in it though, the fill up the mug with hie water. Done.

I use lavazza qualita rossa ground coffee. Need it fine!
Everything in moderation, even moderation.

I agree with all of this, except I like my separate grinder which I can replace rather than bean-to-cup because the I find blades don't last as long as the rest of the espresso machine. And I far prefer my stove top to my son's aeropress; he swears by it but it never seems to make a strong enough cup to me. Which goes to show in the end it will be down to personal taste.

The best advice here is about the beans. The phrase "garbage in garbage out" was never more appropriate. Expensive (or at least better quality) beans in an economy coffee machine will give you a better result than cheap beans in a top of the range model.

I am middle class enough to use one every day. My preference for decent coffee is the only refined thing about me.

I like my aeropress and find it reliably produces a good cup of coffee. I'd prefer a proper espresso machine but mine is currently resisting efforts to make it work.

I'd say my aeropress has proved excellent value for the £30 I spent.
Buy your beans by the kilo from specialists, try the effers first, obvs.

Sage Barista Express 👌🏻 game changing.

Haven't got too fancy with the beans yet though, just use the stock Waitrose ones.

Rotate between an aeropress and a V60 near enough everyday.

If you're into filter coffee and you're going to the effort of grinding beans at home I'd always choose a hand pour v60 over an aeropress personally.

I've had one for 5/6 years now, love it. Can just chuck it in my bag and get decent coffee wherever I am

Yes, my son?

No but really - I need better beans, right? Any specific recommendations?

That's my machine too. Consistently excellent - I buy beans from my local coffee shop though - £11 for 250g, so about 80p a cup.

I've been using beans from Artisan Roasters to n Edinburgh lately, pretty good. Hay Roasters are also good and James Gourmet in Ross on Wye.

Bought a vag of Puro organic in a pre Christmas panic and that's ok.

There's hundreds, but a specialist that roasts then sends is always going to be better than a supermarket or buying a brand. Especially in your rolls Royce of a machine.

I usually pay 25 to 30 quid a kilo
