Okay, well he asked me to go with his plan, and i said "no"

In fact i said that his plan, at this moment, was madness, unworkable, unrealistic and would result in a complete disaster. I told him that my plan was feasible, safe, and would eventually get us to the same place, over a longer period of time, but without the risk.

So, for refusing to do as i was told ....

... he has sacked me.

This sort of thing will hit the trade press and be described, fairly timidly, as me departing because of a change of emphasis as the company takes a different route forward.

So that's it .... but at least i stuck to my principles and i didn't give him a load of flannel and agree to go forward with something that was unworkeable in the immediate future just to keep my job.

... but wait, there's a twist....

...

because if you read back and read all the way through the thread, i'm not in fact Rags Mahone .... i'm John Eustace.
.... and my boss, the CEO, isn't a bloke from Bristol who is quite good at squash ............ he's Garry Cook

... and Garry Cook went to John Eustace and presented a plan, a new way forward, that he was told he should implement.

John Eustace told Garry Cook the plan was, at this point in time, unworkeable. He didn't have the right tools for the job yet. The circumstances weren't right. It was too much of a risk. Maybe that could be the plan in the future, but until that time it would be best to keep to the previously agreed strategy of low risk and steady progress, building slowly to get to the point required. Certainly it would be easier if he could at least wait until the end of the season.

Garry Cook made it known, in no uncertain terms, that if his plan wasn't followed then John Eustace would be sacked.
But Eustace knew that if he tried to follow the new plan it would fail and soon enough he would be sacked anyway for the appalling results that would follow.

"So", thought John, "do i just refuse, out of principle to do what i'm told ? At least if i get sacked now then my reputation is fairly untarnished by the impending disaster. At least i won't be seen as overseeing, and blamed for, everything going tits up."
"Based on my performance then i should be able to get another job, and i'll certainly get paid more there than i do here. It will be an awful shame though 'cos i like it here and have enjoyed my time here."
"But if i go along with the plan, without the players, or time to implement it properly, it will be awful and i'll look completely incompetent and i'll be seen as the culprit and we'll probably drop down the table like a stone until i can get rid of all the out of contract players at the end of the season and recruit some new ones who are better suited"

"Besides"
thought John, "i've seen this scenario before at this very same place. They sacked Rowett because they wanted more adventurous free flowing football and HIS reputation remained intact, and as was soon proven - implementing such a change mid-season WILL be disasterous"

So John Eustace decided to stick to what he believed in and didn't merely nod along to try and keep his job.

... and like me ... he got sacked.

HOWEVER ... most of you in the thread above said "stick to your principles Rags, if it's going to go tits up and make you look incompetent tell him you won't do it."
So, whatever you may or may not think of Eustace - at least he stuck to what he believed in, at least he didn't go creeping up his bosses arse pretending "Yes Boss, wonderful idea, i'll get on it straight away"

================================

Now, another twist ... and an apology.

I started the thread to make a point. An analogy, whereby people could see a situation, think about what they would do, and then transpose that to a different situation. The Cook to Rooney senario and Eustace's position.

What i didn't expect, when you consider what a prIck i can be at times on here, and how much time i spend just winding people up, ... what i didn't expect was for people to actually be so concerned about me and go to all the trouble they did of putting time and effort in giving me good advice.

I just thought people would go .... "1 .. feck him" ... "1" "1" "2" "1" ... and i can tell you it was bloody hard trying to stick to the script and making sure everything i was saying was transposable and worked in both situations. I really didn't expect the effort that people went to to try and help. You're all actually quite kind.

... and i feel guilty now that i ever started it ...... and perhaps i need to look at myself a bit and stop treating the place as just somehere to be argumentative and beligerent.

So again, i apologise.

John Eustace should definitely retrain as a train driver. He'd look quite fetching in a little Casey Jones cap

All good & a moment for introspection for all.

I suspected this to be the case, hence my comment "Option 2 allows for a slight window he pulls off a Brian Clough & the plan works"

When Rab asked (legitimately) about speaking to your GP you said "My GP would laugh at me. "after all the shit you've pulled yourself through, don't try and pretend you're getting anxious about this" - that part was probably a bit rum, given the hypothetical Eustace argument.

Should have done this on April 1st 😤

Lots of SHAers were (I think 🤷‍♂️) genuinely concerned and I don't think you expected that.

#You're right, i didn't ... especially to the point of the amount of effort some people went to .. and espcially when you consider what a pr[ck i can be at times.

Originally i was going to carry it on for a couple of days - but it got out of hand and in the end i was just thinking "no,no,no i'm so sorry ... you've typed all that and you're going to be so disappointed when you find out i'm just dicking around" ... hence the real regret in the end at starting it and my relief at it now ending
I enjoyed that. Quite the effort

No probs from me. So we're in agreement that Eustace should have wiped his cock on Cook's curtains & done a shit in Beau Brummies head?

Go out with a scorched earth policy.
