Always seemed a lovely bloke when I’ve seen him on twitter.
Loved the daft sod in George & Mildred.
Yep I used to turn my nose up when my folks had George and Mildred or Summer Wine on but I've grown to enjoy both now on the re-run channels
Yootha Joyce is up there now probably.
"George, where've you been? Took you long enough!"
I mean people go on about Fawlty Towers but the warmth and familiarity of G&M/Summer Wine tops it by quite a stretch I think and even though I thought they were old hat when I was a kid they haven't dated anything like as much as Only Fools and Horses has IMHO. The mid 1980's it's harshness and brutality isn't relatable at all to me now whereas the late 1970's seems to be - maybe it's the economic circumstances we've been through last 17 years. Fawlty always seems a bit up itself especially now that poncy twit
Problem with LOTSW and their ilk is that they just weren't funny, I watched sit coms for a laugh, not to feel 'warm'. All very personal obviously, but I couldn't sit through G&M for more than 5 mins without getting bored - especially when you did have the likes of Fawlty Towers and Rising Damp around - even Some Mothers Do have 'em was far better and at least raised a few chuckles.
The character Warren Mitchell created and the Likely Lads also IMHO better than those very heavily scripted and overly self important shows you reference. All of them are better than the peep show/walliams/tate shite last 20 years though
I'd forgotten those 2 tbh - the Likely Lads was an absolute classic - similar to the Royle family and Early Doors in style I think, though decades earlier, obvs. Personal taste isn't it? I didn't mind Little Britain and Peep show tbf and the Fast Show is/was pure genius.

Peep show was far superior to LOTSW
Only remember him from Wizadora...

Not a patch on Early Doors though

Putting Peep Show in with those two is blasphemy
Peep Show is exceptional
He's a right twunt though giving all theGen X'ersa ticking off the other day
Gen Z' s sorry
I alwyas think Yootha Joyce would be a good set of Scrabble words.
Only remember him from Wizadora...
Stan, the shopkeeper
I'm with you regarding Fawlty Towers, I struggle to watch more than a few minutes. G&M was alright, fairly unique in a way. Citizen Smith would be up there for me but the Likely Lads comes out top. James Bolam as Terry is just brilliant, Bewes got the easy gig as Bob and it's no surprise that Bolam went on to have the much better career.
Edit: Was meant to be a reply to mad.
