There must be loads of cases where a woman has smashed her sport between 1960 and 2000 that actually probably was more worthy of winning SPOTY. Other than the Olympic ones and people from the royal family who got loads of attention because they were from the royal family.

Congratulations to her, however, she should have finished 6th in that list.

Unfortunately the awards aren't supposed to be based on achievement - but on "personality".

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

They're not are they? It's not what personality means in this sense.

Should have won it this year considering his elevation to the peak of his sport, let alone all the World,Olympic and European champions that the BBC overlook every year...the whole programme is a load of meaningless adoration of minor sportsmen and women.

He literally won nothing this year. Surely you are advocating everything you don't think it should be. The wokeys can't win can they.

I'm all for people being celebrated for being the best at what they do.

There are various football specific ones you know?

Agreed Mo.

There will be some people who will decide that it was all a conspiracy by the "woke" BBC.

Take no notice of them - it wasn't a great year for British sport in comparison to many others, but the Women's football team once again engendered national interest in their sport, and Earps was the stand-out performer and she showed considerable personality too.

Anyone who gets upset at a TV public vote should thank their lucky stars that they don't have anything more serious in their lives to worry about.

The gulf between the numbers of men and women professional athletes has always been huge and is still massive today. Statistically speaking, men should be winning the award more than their counterparts.

When you consider that gap, women have actually out performed men in winning SPOTY.

Has anyone checked if Joey Barton is ok?

Should have been Leon Edwards.
