There must be loads of cases where a woman has smashed her sport between 1960 and 2000 that actually probably was more worthy of winning SPOTY. Other than the Olympic ones and people from the royal family who got loads of attention because they were from the royal family.

The gulf between the numbers of men and women professional athletes has always been huge and is still massive today. Statistically speaking, men should be winning the award more than their counterparts.

When you consider that gap, women have actually out performed men in winning SPOTY.

China are massively underrepresented on The Time Person of the Year based on your metrics. They've got loads of them.

The problem in years to come is when biological males start to win in female sports. What the hell happens then?
Used to love watching this programme but now, what a load of shite

That is true. It's also an American magazine.

Sir Heisenberg
but the Women's football team once again engendered national interest in their sport, and Earps was the stand-out performer and she showed considerable personality too.

This just isn't true though, is it? Alex Greenwood was given best player by newspapers and Lauren Hemp was much more impactful. Earps became the face of the team because Nike didn't sell her shirts and because she did a bit of swearing in the final. If the personality bit is the most important, then fine, but then why do they try and laud their sporting achievements on the night rather than talk about their personality?

The shortlist on the whole was a shambles last night: retiring bloke who didn't win the Ashes; retiring bloke who changed his mind at the death and won as many races as would usually be expected; footballer wronged by commercial brand; golfer who hasn't won a major for a decade.

KJT becoming a world champ again, plus Alfie Hewett winning yet another major the only real deserving ones.

I don't really care about this but FWIW

"This award goes to the sportsperson whose sporting actions have most captured the UK public's imagination during the year.

An expert independent panel will convene to decide the shortlist of sportspeople for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

The BBC Sports Personality of the Year production team will provide the Panel with an extensive list of the top sportspeople from the year, including information on their achievements. The Panel will be free to consider other potential candidates.

The Panel will select a shortlist of sportspeople for the main award on the basis of the following criteria:
β€’ Reflects UK sporting achievements on the national and/or international stage;
β€’ Represents the breadth and depth of UK sports; and
β€’ Takes into account 'impact' of the person's sporting achievement beyond the sport in question.

In the event of a tied vote, the chairperson's decision (Philip Bernie) is binding.

I only know Mary Earps because Nike done her over but she ended up winning the Golden Glove.

Of course they don't. But it's a proxy for them to air their real grievances.

The "but what about the white menz" vibe is strong, isn't it.
The cold never bothered me anyway

She also got over severe mental health problems to get herself back into the sport she loved (but had stopped loving for a time).

She fully deserved this award after being nominated by a panel made up of various sports people.

Well done former Birmingham City player and outstanding England player Mary Earps πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
