That's sad. Always been a bit of a Pogues fan. I saw them in Birmingham a few years ago. Shane was so pissed he fell over during the first half performance.
It's more a surprise he reached 65 in the first place.
He only cut back on booze in the early 1990s to make more time for heroin.
It's been a while since he's even been able to do a Christmas gig.
The last interview I read he sounded in a bad way.
Get them on some decent gear and a junkie will always outlive an alkie.
Sick bed of cuchulainn and the old main drag are 2 of my best Pogue songs.
Possibly the most bizarre night of my life was spent with him and some of the regulars at a lock-in at the Boogaloo. Whiskey and chocolates all round, though I took my leave when the conversation turned to Irish politics
Corkhill was an absolute legend.
My cousin was a good friend of his from school and performed on stage with him once (my cousin was an amateur but Shane called him up on stage anyway)
Had hoped he might be immortal, but wasn’t to be.
Digbeth Civic Hall 1983 - “Lend me £10 and I’ll buy you a drink.”
Genius ? Quite possibly.
Sad day.
“You’re the measure of my dreams.”
“If I should fall from grace with God
Where no doctor can relieve me
If I'm buried 'neath the sod
But the angels won't receive me
Let me go, boys
Let me go, boys.”
Shane MacGowan was a good one. I hope he’s at peace.

Yes, what a great shout, and a song which Blues fans took to heart, giving us a new and unique chant, which I've still never heard any other set of fans chant over the decades.
I would love to know if Shane/The Pogues actually know about how Blues fans turned one of their songs into a terrace chant???

Rainy Night in Soho is the one for me as well. RIP.

I first saw them in Manchester in 1988 😳 walked on stage, went for the mike, missed it and fell face first into the mosh pit.
Did well to make it to 65 - great frontman and songwriter.
