Morning all
An incredibly difficult card today, minimum stakes for most races I think.
As for yesterday a great day betting wise, had a bit of luck, Marine Nationale left clear ( although I think he was just getting on top) and Stumptown may have
struggled to beat Vanillier if that horse hadn’t almost run out. But to be honest I’ll take any luck going.
Noticed it was the lowest Cheltenham crowd for years yesterday, drop the 4 days, have three eight race days and I reckon the crowds would come flocking back.
I will post my selections up here later.
See you all later.
The crowds dropping do make for a better experience for those there. Prices are extortionate though. £7.80 Guinness £7.70 Madri. £9.90 for a small can of spirits and mixer. £15 for burger and chips. £13 for 4 slices of pizza £6 for a tray of chips
One day is enough for me
Was in hospitality with Parlour and Brazil yesterday. Ray was on excellent form all day and Alan had to have an early bath due excessive liquid intake. Dean Windass was in there too, friendly bloke.
Didn't see any Blues but heard they were about.
Great tips from Nightporter.
I’m not surprised that the crowds are dropping, unless you win, its a very expensive day out. And you should never go to the races expecting to win, even if you have had a nod and a wink.
That coupled with the general shift in atmosphere there, that people go to go to the Guinness village, powder their noses and act like numpty’s, it’s enough to put people off.
Anyway, should be a cracking day for the spectacle, not for the wallet.
It is a huge rip off tbf. I have been lucky enough to do 2 days in corporate and it’s 900 quid a day for the ticket. Food was bang average. Free bar but you got to be going some to drink more than 120 quids worth.

You are right about it been a better experience, you need to ablt to move around comfortably.
The prices are shocking, am I right in thinking you can take your drink outside now?
You can and that’s asking for trouble. Never had an issue with no drink in stands or in view of the course as previously they’ve had tosspots throw beer at a jockey or horse
I honestly think racing fans ( over the side of the Irish Sea) are fed up of the dominance of Mullins for sure it’s become boring also as posted by rab the prices are to high for food and drink a few pints and some food on top of betting it’s a very expensive day out so all in fans are leaving Cheltenham off the racing calendar as a day out and watching on tv like I am

I have never see that happen at any of the other big race meets though. So why would it at Cheltenham?
It’s probably as I am getting older, but give me a meeting at a smaller racecourse with a couple of thousand there over a big race meet with tons of lads in cheap suits sniffing.
It’s definitely happened before at big meetings. Divs gonna div. Don’t mind some dressing up but that or sniffing ain’t for me. Nor is throwing overpriced beer at racing or football

Nothing original, but I thought sixandahalf was a decent bet here. She was half decent on the flat, has won on good and a softer surface. She won her first hurdle race by 12 lengths very easily. Stable have had a winner and 6 placed horses already this week, would have been 7 but for a faller on the first day.
There are loads in here who have lots of untapped potential, Mullins has 7!
I was always under the impression they thought a lot of Maughreen, but she is a double figure price so I may have that wrong.
A bigger danger maybe Galileo Dame, she was going to run in tomorrow's triumph but they have opted for, presumably because they think it is easier. In her last flat race she finished 2nd behind Hamish who regularly runs in group races on the flat. She is just over 5's on Betfair so could be an ew bet to nothing.
Sixandahalf win
