Their game v Millwall where they were scrapping out the back of the stand at half time was off the scale compared to yesterday.

Am I the only one who yesterday wasn't as bad as reported? If those few Wolves fans hadn't jumped up when they scored
the 2nd then it wouldn't have happened, just like nothing happened when they went 1-0 up because nobody jumped up that time. It wasn't as if Wolves had a mob\firm in the home end either. Total modern day football\life overreation....and no way did it warrant a 38 minute delay

As for it being like 'scenes from the 70s\80s' do me a favour

From the footage there's between 30-100 milling around looking tough near where the fans had been. A fair few stepped out of the Brummie Road Stand then just stand around gormlessly.
The actual trouble appears to have involved very few people and been over in a few seconds.
It then took a ridiculous amount of time to calm everyone.
Most of the pushing and shoving was Baggie on Baggie action well after the flashpoint.

I am sure it was very scary if you have never seen any trouble before.
It was much like the Legia Warsaw fans at VP recently. The worst night of violence in decades ended with 7 charged (including one for drug possession). The other 39 arrested were released.

If the same thing had happened in 1985 it would barely have merited a sentence in the Argus, let alone a 30 minute delay and on the national news last night and today. 'Following the second goal there was a brief fracas in the Halfords Lane stand'.
It's great that that era is long gone, but a lot of fuss has been made about a minor incident.

Brum being the youngest city in Europe possibly a factor?
Aside from Vile the other three clubs were all backwater doldrums status when the Premier League started so the 1980's type of fanbase became more embedded in the West Midlands
That and the satellite towns around the city all being quite territorial and also quite antagonistic towards the main city in the region, an attitude you don't really get in other regions
All 4 clubs probably have fewer middle class fans as a % of their overall fanbase compared to clubs in the other big cities

The non-league derbies in the area are often worse

And yes WMP will be a major factor, recall the game when Kevin Drinkell won it with the diving header. The 9,000 Blues at the Smethwick End were all to a man herded up the Brummie Road back into town. WMP maybe dropped a bollock yesterday?
Lies, I went back towards yamland with a spring in my step and stiffy in my pants

We were parked on the dual carriageway to Smethwick.
I am fairly confident I would remember if I had to walk in to town and back to get to the car.

I was there and don’t remember being herded anywhere. There weren’t 9,000 of us either.

Similar to yesterday though, I do remember a Blues fan going up in the home end when we scored - he was at the front of the Brummie - and getting a bit of a pasting.

My thoughts exactly. I’ve seen worse scenes down the Legion on a Sunday tbh

Wasn't 8k the number of fans we had there being spoken about at the time i recall? We did have a big support, something like 25k\ 30k at game. Maybe not 8k though? Me and my mates still laugh about it because a week later we got 9k at home v Torquay.

After the game we ( me & my mates) walked back into town down soho rd just like we always do but certainly not in an escort. It couldn't be done for that many anyway. You'd need the army to 'kettle' that many for that distance
Definitely not a huge escort back to town, 100% that didn't happen

its weird. i have two cousins who are brothers. one is blues, the other is villa. the difference between the two is incredible. I would have absolutely nothing to with the villa cousin, if we weren't related. He is a pathetic weasel and i would go so far to say that i hate him. You would never ever believe they were brothers, they are so different in personality.

That maybe so but you could always do with some bone marrow, so keep the door ajar somewhat.

Managed to break free where the number 11 crosses the Soho Rd. Been in a couple of herded mobs to Wolves since on exiting the station and the usual nonsense with the separate trains to Vile fairly recently but nothing approaching the level of segregation post match that day although may have been just for us stragglers at the back the ones up ahead may well have got away. Wasn't any kettling back then just loads of coppers making sure nobody set foot on the pavement

I was there yesterday and this comment is spot on

Although I must add that every Albion lad from the last 40 years
Seemed to have made a appearance yesterday and the atmosphere was
Very moody, that along with the pubs been opened from 7.30 and many of the younger
One’s doing cocaine quite openly + throw WMP into the mix it was a recipe for trouble.
When Drinkell scored there were 2 or 3 blues in the rainbow stand that made their escape, with blows raining down on them. Hardly a scratch on them though.

When we had 900 tickets and Donowa scored that worldie, there was a few in the home end, but albion were too soft to give them a severe beating.

There were more than a few in the home end. Hundreds mate. My mate got lamped for moaning at Blues celebrating near him then when he told a steward to eff them off, the steward said eff that, I’ve just seen what they did to you 😂
I was in the Brummie Rd End but kept my gob shut

I’ve seen Blues in the Brummie Road end with a Baggies mate. It didn’t feel too intimidating, but I didn’t leap up when we did the unlikely thing of scoring!

I suspect I wouldn’t do the same at Vile Pork, but then again I don’t profess to have any Vile mates!
