Very worried Mowbray wonât be coming back now. This appointment runs the risk of the owners painting themselves into a corner. If it doesnât work, we go down. If it does work, they could very well keep Rowett on. Lose/lose.
So whatâs your solution?
The options arenât âRowett or nobodyâ
That's not an answer
Desparate times, desparate measures. Can't really see being any worse that what's happened over the last month or so.
The board will be 1000% focused on keeping us out of league one with options running out. If TM can't walk back in next week then I can see why this is happening.
Playing good football becomes more of moot point after each game as sadly we are back where we are every year. We know what needs to be done, and he fits that bill probably more than most.
Nobody likes it, but we've all been here before. At least it isn't Harry or Bowyer.

Many would accept GR back perm
If Rowett keeps us up, we go on a mad run, the positivity comes back, then Mowbray sadly announces he's retiring at the end of the season, they have to hire Rowett.
Imagine if Rowett kept us up, we outperformed for 8 weeks, everyone was buzzing - then they bring in somebody like Frank Lampard, and we start next season losing every week. They'd make a rod for their own backs. The seethe would be huge. Cook wouldn't escape a feck up for a 2nd time.
Mowbray or Rowett will be managing next year
stop it
just stop it
Some would. Thankfully the board have already made it clear that his sort of football isn't what we want here. In the short term, we need it but I don't think there's any chance of him getting the job permanently if Mowbray can't come back.
People wanted a new contract for Sunjic when he played a few decent games
People wanted a new contract for Juke when he scored a goal
So I can definitely imagine there will be lots who will want Rowett to have a new contract if he wins some matches
Personally I'd be saying thanks, moving on and getting someone else, it's a specialist short term role and shouldn't go beyond that.

Just to confirm, Iâm not Wagner. However, my âsolutionâ would be to finish the season as we are. I think weâve got enough to stay up, and Iâm not convinced a short term appointment (of anyone) is a good idea. Iâm especially not convinced a short term appointment of Rowett is a good idea.
If we go down, we build from scratch in league 1 with a fresh boss (or Mowbray). If we stay up, Mowbray (or, probably and sadly, someone else) starts from scratch in the championship.
I am genuinely concerned that weâll stay up now and start next year in the championship with Rowett.
There is always momentum behind keeping on a caretaker if they do ok. See also, Redknapp, Harry.
Its never a good idea. Itâs particularly never a good idea when weâd be literally winding the clock back 8 or 10 years with Rowett. Itâs the very opposite of the transformation in mindset I (and I reckon quite a few others) were hoping this ownership would bring.
And before the replies of âitâs a short term solution, they wonât keep Rowett onâ start⊠are you absolutely sure about that? Itâs not like we havenât seen this regime repeating mistakes of the past recently is it?
As per my original post, the owners are painting themselves into a difficult corner here. Theyâve now got Rowett hanging round the place like Banquoâs ghost in a quarter zip top.
If they insist on a caretaker then anyone not laden with the baggage of Rowett please, and if they could also not be a Villa fan that would be nice too.
Thankfully these people won't be making the decision and thankfully Knighthead won't be appointing their next manager based on a Bham Mail poll.
Don't worry about what people want, it's irrelevant.
Would have been happy with Rowett after Rooney (or Eustace really) went but it does make me worry we wont see Mowbray back at blues for the forseeable.

It might be that the time since Mowbray went on sick leave has been sounding out options till they finally got to Rowett on the list.
The owners have also shown with Eustace and Rooney that they aren't scared to move on from people - the only way Rowett is here long term is because he gets the team playing like Liverpool or Man City.
CastleBlueThe attendance was still higher than under plenty of managers weâve had. And the no fear football is down to owners. Glad you agreeRab C NesbittdebullyIt has tbfBecause no fear football really drives the fans back eh?
I'm almost certain you was talking about how you can't give tickets away to people for the last game. That's how entertaining life has been with open football but getting beat most weeks.
Attendances are better because we have better owners, not because we are 4th bottom but pass more.
Rab C Nesbittmjd2505Yes attendances are up as you stateRab C NesbittdebullyIt has tbfBecause no fear football really drives the fans back eh?
Has it? I was/am an advocate for it, but we haven't got greatly improved attendances. I think we would've had we kept Eustace - there's no way we wouldn't have sold out that first game with a fully open St Andrews had the change not been made and positivity drained by Rooney's reign.
And I don't necessarily agree with it, but there's no doubting that even 5-6 months into changing our style the home fans still get very nervy about playing out the back and frustrated at the slow tempo.
The style of football is irrelevant - the results are what will drive fans back. If Rowett sorts us out defensively which he's sure to do, we may be able to get the most out of our attacking players and win more games. That's what'll drive the fans back.
Also side note - all good talking about possession based attacking football gets teams promoted, but the team who played that way at this level are struggling massively in the premier league, and the team who were more pragmatic and transition based are making a good go of staying up. Lots more goes into it than that, recruitment etc, but seriously, does it matter if you have 25 shots or 5 if the ones you have go in? Did they also take into account (when looking at the data of the promoted teams) which of those teams got promoted with non-parachute payments and what style of football they played?
Where did I say attendances are up? Depends what you compare with. Vs when the ground was half shut? Vs when we had the old owners? You can't say the "no fear football" has improved attendances as of yet. I'm not saying it won't in future, but I really don't think it has as of now.
You said we havenât got greatly improved attendances. They are improved though.

I know, I'm not worried
Hopefully we will stay up, then Knighthead will have a plan
