If I'm honest I have more time for villa fans around Birmingham if they are from traditional villa families etc. What really gets me are middle aged blokes who insist on supporting Man City, Chelsea,Liverpool ,Man U, etc .or whoever is suddenly doing well. A few years ago you used to see Blackburn Rovers tops around the town until they plummeted. What gets me is that they always try to justify it with weird reasons rather than just saying it's glory hunting.
Just me I suppose.

Slow morning Rags?🎣

I remember stopping at a cafe near Lichfield between lockdowns - card only. Red faced cyclist turns up - clearly wanted a drink but only had cash. He asked I could get his drink and he would pay me in cash. Now I am a kindly bloke and I have nothing against cyclists, at least those willing to share the road, not the over-zealous, over-pious be-lycra'd nutters. They can always eff off. Trouble is this one was wearing claret & blue socks. "No mate" says I. Mrs thought I was a bit pathetic and immature about that.

I’ve always thought interviews are decided in the first thirty seconds; first impressions are hard to shake and so I’m not surprised if anyone would decide against employing someone cos of who they support.

After all, one of the main things about interviewing someone is you’ve got to work with them - which means it comes down to “can I trust them to do the job?” as much as anything doesn’t it?

Or am I painfully naive about this?

I think it's true that someone can ruin their own interview in the first thirty seconds but if someone isn't judging you over the interview as a whole is that really someone you want to be working for anyway ?

My best interview advice, by the way, is to always remember that it's a two way process - you are also there to interview the employer to ensure it's someone you want to work for. I had an interview myself 2 years ago where i stopped the interviewer (after he first made a slightly racist remark and then a VERY misogynistic comment about one of his staff) and told him that it was pointless continuing because i could never work for him without wanting to pull him up all the time about the way he viewed people

and you are proud of that?

wow.

On the other hand - at least i wouldn't discriminate against you for being Welsh

On the other hand my ex boss was a DVB and he told me he would never employ me or any other Blues supporter if it was down to him. (I was employed at the company before he joined and also more qualified)
So what goes around etc.

Beyond the obvious this is actually my point ..... never mention who you support in an interview - there are some real immature people out there who may have a pathological hatred of you just because of who you support (such as me)

You’re probably right.

When I interviewed for my current position I knew straight away I wanted to work there, even though it was a ballache to get to. Thankfully, they seemed to know straight away that they wanted me too.

I’d have more respect for a Villa ST holder than someone who barely goes.

Not sure i’d hold it against them in an interview though tbh,

From the final candidates, was there better ones than the villa bloke?

Yes, if you read my piece back again - one of the 3 final candidates had already interviewed that day and also been excellent. She is a Baggies fan (as was her husband). The Villa fan was probably equally as excellent. If he hadn't been a Villa fan though i probably would have chosen the other excellent candidate anyway as she had done research (by asking around) about what i was like to work for as a boss (i'm quite well known in my field - probably due to longevity - and the fact that i used to work at a level two levels higher than my current one but chose to downgrade to concentrate on the parts of the industry i enjoyed and specialise in more -still "senior" but not "stupidly senior" position)

Agree.
I don't usually like to hear that Villa fans are from Walsall area and black country either. That area has it's own clubs so why do they drive past those grounds on their way to VP? Gawd knows how many fans the Saddlers have lost to them?

Picking the biggest club, Villa( you are not chosen if you live nearer to Walsall wba and Wolves) is a blatent attempt at glorying hunting, although the irony is they haven't won anything for yrs.

That said 'i treat as i find' including villa fans

Amount of villa sympathisers on here is sickening tbh

I thought you were about to complain about them lot being mistreated judging by the thread title, I’m glad to see you endorse it. You 100% did the right thing.

Up the rags đź‘Ť
Tell you what that crack is really moreish.

Your the immature one.

Not employing someone because they are a effing villa fan.

Of course i am ... didn't i just admit it ?

... but, in my mind, choosing to support Villa to the point of having a season ticket shows a very low moral compass, taking safe choices, lack of imagination, potential arrogance, no stomach for hard work when a problem arises and, most of all, you're not the one who has to work with the fecker !!

I always end up arguing with my fellow interviewers when it’s close. They want to go by scores, I say have to manage this bastard and they have to fit in with the team and the needs of the team at that particular time. They have to fit the feck in.

So I applaud you Rags, for your common sense
