I did ask for facts as none appear to be in the public domain pertaining to Warwickshire's dressing room

Warwickshire chairman Mark McCafferty tells PA the club is ‘seriously concerned’ by specific claims against Tim Bresnan and “will seek to talk to Azeem at the earliest opportunity so that we can fully understand the detail”
Bresnan has said he will ‘fully co-operate’

This is a delicate matter, as it involves allegations about Tim’s behaviour while at another club. However, as we have said before, racism or bullying will not be tolerated here at Warwickshire, and we will not shirk from investigating these matters in full”

It seems like there is never facts until suddenly there’s facts.

Wouldn’t this leave Warwick’s in a really tricky position if Bresnan is guilty of racism at Yorkshire. It’s a shame, it really is as I really like Bresnan but if it’s true then these guys get no sympathy from me. Throw the book at them.

In my experience I played age level for Sussex and there was no racism, although looking back everyone was white in my age group, which whilst not the most diverse county has made me think maybe there was more underlying issues. Which is a worry, but again, I never thought about it at the time.

Bit dodgy of Rafiq to claim Ballance failed a drugs test and wasn't struggling with his mental health after he took time off.

Surely a failed drugs test will be easy to confirm...

This is what you’ve taken away from this?

Just to be absolutely clear I’m not trying to have a go here. I’m sorry if it seems like I am and maybe it’s hard to express myself well in this format rather than I’m discussion. I just have zero faith that Warwickshire is an oasis of enlightenment in a troubled game, and I feel like there is a danger of people wanting this to be the case and therefore (understandably) trying to talk it into reality. Let’s see, and I hope you’re right.

To be fair, I think you both make valid points, I also find it hard to believe that WCCC have engrained racism, but I’m sitting in a position of privilege that until recently I didn’t really fully comprehend. As has been said on here, racism is alive and well in our country and I’m as guilty as most to turning a blind eye at times when I probably shouldn’t have done.

If I can learn from recent revelations then I’d like to think most can. In reality education is the key, surely? I love that Dewali was taught to my 3 year old recently and wish I’d had the same education. Hopefully the next generation will be far more aware.

Fair points but to counter if it turns out that over the last 30 years "there once was a racist who played for Warwickshire" then that doesn't shoot down my doubting that it would be tolerated within the dressing room there first XI at any rate

If 3 or 4 turn up then yeah I'd concede to your greater knowledge

The type of racism most likely to exist at Bears is the type espoused by Bumble David Lloyd et al... old outdated stereotyping of types of player but there are no facts or even rumours I know of about Warwicks dressing room being a racist hotbed

We all need to be less complacent for sure. We should probably call out the racist ejits in the loo's or in the pub after the game but for obvs reasons we shy away from it if they are a stranger or even if they are a mate

‘Not in the first XI’ and ‘old fashioned racism’ rather than openly calling someone a **** to his face’ doesn’t mean there cannot be a serious cultural problem.

I wonder if this sort of banter is one of the reasons for the decline of black cricketers, which is such a shame, but didn’t Carberry come out recently about his treatment or have I made that up?

Carberry definitely.

Cricket in the wider West Midlands region including the Birmingham League pyramid Warwicks, Worcestershire and the minor counties Staffs etc... for sure there will be problems but it's very vague and the total problems in that whole region is more than likely dwarfed by the problems in the single county (albeit 5 million people) of Yaaaaarkshire

Thanks for that, I’ll listen to it at work tomorrow. Does anyone know what Bumbles did? I’ve tried looking but it seems to be a grey area.

Apparently he made some comments about players from Asian backgrounds not being popular in club cricket because they don’t want to mix and socialise and trying to get them to pay their subs is like getting blood out of a stone. Something along those lines I think.

Quite the generalisation then. Sigh, just so much of it around.

Yes, it's significant.

Unless you're saying a man's mental health isn't an important issue?

So just to understand this, Rafiq was close to committing suicide, some might say that’s a mental health issue, and he was obviously racially abused. Yet you’ve not mentioned that but brought up Ballances potential mental health issues?

And you’re asking me if mental health issues are important?
02:15, Wed 17 Nov
Yes. It's not a contest of whose mental health was worse. It was bad for both of them. If Rafiq is lying about Ballance's considering he went through it himself, then that's not a great look. HTH.
